Beatrice M. Downey

GOREVILLE - Beatrice M. Downey, 97, of Manteno, formerly of Goreville, passed away at 2:14 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bradley Royale Nursing Home in Bradley. She was born on September 25, 1914 to John and Maude (Craig) Ray in Jonesboro. Beatrice married W.B. King on December 5, 1937 in Connersville, IN. He passed away. She then married R.L. Downey in Youngstown, OH on April 1, 1946 and he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters, two infant siblings and one grandson. She worked as a Nurse Aid III for Manteno State Hospital until she retired in 1972. Bea is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; John (Judy) Downey of Bourbonnais and Mike (Donna) Downey of Manteno; one daughter; Jean Powell of Marion; 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, 482 Main St, Bourbonnais, IL 60914. Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale is assisting the family with the arrangements.
