Marion - Buddy B. Murphy, 63, passed away on May 13, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Buddy was born February 22, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee to Charles and Gladys Murphy. He graduated Murphysboro High School in 1970; and was a military police officer in the United States Army from 1972-1975. After honorable discharge from the U. S. Army, Buddy followed his passion of police work with Carbondale Police Department as an officer. He is survived by his son, Michael Murphy of Cape Girardeau, MO; daughter and son-in- law, Valerie and Zack Radford, and soon-to-be grandson arriving in September 2015, all Honolulu, HI; and his sister, Linda Kelly of Houlka, MS. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Murphy, of Houlka, MS, father, Charles Murphy, of Ashland, MS, step-mother, Marie Murphy, of Ashland, MS, and brother, Charles "Bubba" Murphy, of Memphis, Tennessee. Buddy enjoyed fishing, cooking, hunting, his dog Cooper, baseball, repairing boats and telling stories. He was a loving dad with a great sense of humor and "spunk" for life that will be greatly missed, cherished and remembered. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Giant City State Park Shelter 5. We ask friends to come and celebrate Buddy's life, and share favorite memories and stories. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Marion High School Fishing Team, % of the Athletic Director, 1501 S. Carbon St., Marion, IL 62959, and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale.
