Catheryn "June" Freeman

GRAND TOWER – Catheryn “June” Freeman, 86, of Grand Tower, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Manor Court of Carbondale.



June was born on August 28, 1934 in Grand Tower, Illinois to Albert and Nora (Taylor) Mezo.



Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bryan (Kathy) Freeman of Jonesboro, and John Freeman of Grand Tower; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl (Gordon) Glodo of Grand Tower; five grandchildren, Josh (Heidi) Freeman, Charlie (Toni) Freeman, Samantha (Keith) Shepard all of Grand Tower, Jennifer Glodo of Jonesboro, and Phillip (Madison) Glodo of Marion; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Kenny (Brenda) Mezo; two sisters-in-law, Madge Mainer and Virginia Mezo; special sister by choice, Lorene Lovejoy; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.



She is preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Joseph Freeman; five brothers, Herman, Sherman, Russell, Ralph and Eugene Mezo.



June lived in Grand Tower all of her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Grand Tower, St. Joseph Hospital Axillary, and Grand Tower Lions Club. She also served on the board of the Mississippi River Museum and Interpretive Center. June operated her own beauty shop and baked numerous cakes for weddings and birthdays. She went on to work as a cook for the Delta Chi Fraternity. June enjoyed painting, playing the piano and accordion, reading, and watching Cardinal Baseball and the Hallmark Channel.



Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Grand Tower United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Estes officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Hill Cemetery, Grand Tower. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Meredith Funeral Chapel in Grand Tower is in charge of arrangements.



Memorial donations may be made to the Grand Tower United Methodist Church and envelopes will be available at the church.
