Charles Larry Wood

CARTERVILLE – Charles Larry Wood, 78, of Carterville, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 in Herrin Hospital.



Charles was born on January 30, 1941 to John and Naomi (Hicks) Wood in Carbondale. When John Wood passed away his mother remarried John G. Menteer who helped raise Charles. He married Mary Ann Easter on May 2, 1981. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2014.



Charles is survived by his children, John Wood of Hobart, IN, Larry Wood of Portage, IN, Angela (Gary) Spurlock of Morehead, KY, Lisa (Danny) Webb of Crawfordsville, IN, Bill (Rhonda) Piper of Texas, Glinda (Phillip) Schiller of Portage, IN, Chris (Shirley) Hollifield of Valparaiso, IN, Wayne Hollifield of Knoxville, TN, David (Melisa) Hollifield of Cartersville, GA, and Luffman Jestes of Portage, IN; thirty grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Jones of Carterville and Pat Rawson of Murphysboro.



He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Sandra Kay and brother Gary Wood.



Charles served his country in the Navy. Charles worked as a Head Shipper for U.S. Steel and then worked for Hadady Corporation until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved NASCAR.



Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. John Annable officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda with full military rites. Visitation will be 11am until 1pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
