Charlotte F Winget

De Soto - Charlotte F. Winget, 84, of De Soto, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday, December 30,, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her loving family.



Charlotte was born on December 14, 1932 to Theron and Hazel (Schmellmyer) Clough. She married Hobert R. Winget on June 2, 1951. Together they had almost 50 years of blessed marriage until he passed away in May 2001.



Charlotte had a huge heart that she generously shared with family and friends by lending a helping hand or baking a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls to anyone in need. She cherished being with family whether mentoring grandchildren or playing pinochle with her siblings. Charlotte was always ready to see new places and loved trying new foods but when not able to travel she would be reading or expertly solving word puzzles.



For many years Charlotte worked as a cook at SIU student center and was a very active member in St Peter’s Church of Christ in Murphysboro.



She is survived by two sons, Sam and Renae Winget of De Soto and Hobie Winget of De Soto; two daughters, Charla and Jerry Childress of Carterville and Kim Winget and Gene Kristoff of Elkville; two sisters, Camilla Rose and Bob Korando of Murphysboro and Ruth and Jerry Sarenson of Murphysboro; three sister-in-law’s, Jane Graves of Arizona, Joyce Winget of Murphysboro, and Rose Clough of Murphysboro; four grandchildren, Kevin and Gary Winget of De Soto, Jeremy and Katie Childress of St. Louis, and Samantha Winget of Oahu, HI; and four great-grandchildren, Beth and Emma Winget of De Soto, and Charlotte and Luke Childress of St. Louis.



She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, two sisters, some brother and sister in laws and one granddaughter, Sheri Childress.



Services for Charlotte will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at 1516 Spruce St., in Murphysboro, with Pastor P.K. Sunny officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be held privately at a later date in McKinney Hill Cemetery in Carbondale.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and will be accepted at the church or by the funeral home.
