Clifford L. Dietz

De Soto - Clifford L. Dietz, 72, of De Soto, passed away at 1:23 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Clifford was born July 5, 1943 in Carbondale to Herman Oscar and Helen Vida (Dixon) Dietz. They preceded him in death. He married, Sharon Marie Duvardo on November 26, 1971 in De Soto. She survives and is of De Soto. Clifford is also survived by three daughters, Sara (Chad) Whitehead of Marion, Becky (Travis) Cook and Julie Dietz all of De Soto; brother, Larry (Marlene) Dietz of Normal; and three grandchildren, Addison, Ember and Vivian Cook. He was of Lutheran faith and a man of God. Cliff had worked as a De Soto post office clerk, Koppers, A & J Freight and a bookkeeper for Grass Roots. He retired as the van driver for the Center for Independent Living in 1992. His heart was always in farming. He had grown up on the farm with his family and learned the values of life. His parents taught him and his brother to always make room at the supper table for someone less fortunate or lonely. Cliff has carried this throughout his adulthood and on to his own children and grandchildren. He had a heart of compassion. On August 24, 2014, the Southern Illinoisan wrote an article about him entitled 'One in a million' He loved his town and the people living in it. He never let polio get the best of him. He will truly be missed by the many lives he touched over the years. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the funeral home, with Reverend John Annable officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Hill Cemetery in De Soto. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Indian Hill Cemetery or the Center for Independent Living.
