Damon Paul Tyman

February 25, 1985 — November 17, 2014

Murphysboro - Damon Paul Tyman was born in Carbondale, on February 25, 1985, to Marilyn Repeck Tyman and Stephen Tyman. He graduated from Carbondale Community High School in 2003, and attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Like his mother before him, he studied computer science. He earned his degree in 2007. For two years he was employed in the capacity of a software programmer. At the time of his death he was six credit hours shy of completing his Master's degree in computer science at Portland State University, already having to his credit numerous publications in his field. Damon was a gifted guitar player and loved music of many different kinds. A gentle, kind and generous soul, he touched the lives of many. He was also very fond of animals, particularly large cats. The last month of his life he spent working at the Wright Way Animal Rescue. He is survived by his father, Stephen Tyman and step-mother Sara Beardsworth, both of Murphysboro; his sister, Shannon Tyman, of Seattle, Washington; maternal uncles and aunts, Paul and Pat Repeck, and his aunt Sally Repeck, all of Michigan; paternal grandfather and grandmother, Paul Tyman and Aimee Perkins Tyman, his aunts Kathleen Tyman Hwang of China, Cynthia Tyman Kennedy, Michelle Tyman Oliver, Mary Jo Tyman, all of Colorado, and his uncle Jonathan Tyman of Michigan. Damon was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Repeck Tyman, on September 6, 2004, who, at the beginning of his sophomore year in college, finally succumbed after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gerald Repeck, and in 2012, his maternal grandmother, Mary Dunn Repeck, both of Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Carbondale, with Father Robert Flannery officiating, with a visitation beginning an hour prior to the service. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance, and may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or Wright Way Animal Rescue, and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
