David Amberger

MURPHYSBORO - David "Ambo" Amberger, 62, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.



Dave was born June 30, 1956 to Glen and Judith (Reed) Amberger in Harrisburg. He married his love Andrea Wavering on October 18, 2014 in Carterville.



Dave served his country in the U.S. Army and went on to lead a life of service. Dave loved helping people. This was evident through the work he did. He was a firefighter and worked for several departments in Southern Illinois. His last employment was with the Jackson County Ambulance Service where he worked as a paramedic for sixteen years until his retirement in 2015. Volunteering and giving back to his city and community was of utmost importance to Dave. He also served as a Deputy Coroner for Jackson County. He loved spoiling his grandkids and loved life and family. No matter the hardships he faced or the difficult situation he was responsible in handling amazingly. Dave had a positive outlook to life and was never down. By inspiring others he was unique and a one of a kind individual. He genuinely cared and had a big heart. Being in action and a hero to others fueled him and he lived for the adrenaline rush and action. He was a huge Vikings and Detroit Tigers fan. Many people loved him and he will be truly missed. The world will not be the same without him



Dave is survived by his wife, Andrea; sons, Nicholas Amberger and wife Ashley of West Frankfort and David Andrew “Andy” Amberger and wife Marllori of West Frankfort; daughter, Lauren Amberger of Murphysboro; step-son, Andrew Cain and wife Emile of Champaign; step-daughter, Erin McGill and husband Lucas of Champaign; brothers, Richard Amberger and wife Jenny of Indianapolis, IN, Scott Amberger and wife Sheila of Harrisburg and Robert Amberger and wife Sandra of Seminole, FL; sister, Cindi Amberger-Knott of Terre Haute, IN; and grandchildren, Conner Cain, Abigail and Briana Townley, Jase Burris, Addison and William Amberger, and Peter McGill.



He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Mike Knott.



Dave loved music and his favorite of all time was KISS and Backdraft soundtrack.



A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. An honor guard vigil will be provided by the Carbondale Fire Department in collaboration with the Ambulance Service of Jackson County a walk-through being conducted at 4:00pm.



Memorials may be given to The Carbondale Firemen’s Auxiliary in Carbondale. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
