David Eugene Baggett

August 6, 1942 — March 28, 2017

Murphysboro – David “Dave” Eugene Baggett, 74, passed away at his home at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 with his family by his side.

Dave was born on August 6, 1942 to William Eugene and Pauline (Holder) Baggett. He married Carol Alley on September 23, 1989. She survives and resides in Murphysboro.

Dave worked as manager for the Martin Oil company early in his career, switching to the insurance industry in the mid 70’s. He held various positions over his 30+ years in the industry; agent, agency owner, company marketing rep and was very active in the 1752 Club. He worked for Chip Banks Auto before his retirement.

Dave lived a life of service. He actively served the Carbondale Kiwanis Club, holding many positions including Lieutenant Governor for the state of IL. He had been an active member of Walnut Street (The Ridge Church) for 62 years; serving as Sunday School Director, Trustee, Chairman of the Ushers and member of many committees over the years. He served as President of Giant City School Parent’s Assoc. He spent endless nights sitting on a bleacher cheering on his kids and grandkids in sporting events, and loved every minute of it.

Dave took great pride in his flower gardens and landscaped yard but was most proud of his family. He was a man of great faith, had a very strong relationship with God and wasn’t afraid to tell you about it.

Other survivors include, daughter, Cindy (Jon) Jackman of Carbondale, Tammy Noeper of O’Fallon, Chris (Trevor) Cottle of Beardstown; son, Clay Alley (Melissa Doss) of O’Fallon, MO; brother, Steve Baggett (Howard Wyble) of Tulsa, OK; sister, Rosalie (Louis) Hertter of Carbondale; grandchildren, Kristin Germann, Troy Germann, Dylan Baggett, Brittany Crawford, Ashley Crawford, Jenna Foley, Danielle Lamb, Taylor Perry, Shelton Cottle, Zachary Alley, and Lauren Alley; and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his favorite furry companion, a poodle named Sammie.

David is preceded in death by his parents, and one son, David Baggett Jr.
