Eugene O. Mantovani

Eugene O. Mantovani, 78, of Carbondale, passed away at 7:27 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Gene was born to Osire B. and Anna (Stanavich) Mantovani on Nov. 8, 1935 in Herrin. He was a civil engineer for the state of Illinois for over 34 years, and retired in 1991. He married Mary Black on Jan. 19, 1958 in Carbondale. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta (Craig) Reeves of Carbondale, and Beth (Gerry) Schatte of Festus, MO.; and a granddaughter, Toni Schatte also of Festus, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joann Mantovani; and a brother, Philip Mantovani. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale, with Pastor Janice West officiating. Interment will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale. Memorials to the donor's choice are the preferred form of remembrance.
