Evelyn Lucille Davis Chamness

CARBONDALE - Evelyn Lucille Davis Chamness, 101, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Manor Court of Carbondale.

Evelyn was born on May 12, 1921 in Carterville, IL to Fred and Minnie (James) Yancey. Evelyn married Howard Davis on December 17, 1938 in Charleston, MO. He preceded her in death in March 1970. She married Clifton Chamness on January 1, 1971 in Williamson County, IL. He preceded her in death in November 1995.

Evelyn was the member of Cottage Home Baptist Church of Carbondale. She worked several years for Good Luck Glove and Tuck Tape in Carbondale. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and playing Aggravation with her nephew David. She felt blessed to have caring and loving neighbors, Peggy and Mike Wadiak.

Survivors include her two children, Retired Lt. Colonel Frederick (Ellen) Davis of Crowley, TX and Joyce (Ronnie) Wells of Makanda; stepdaughter, Judy Provoe of Gorham; two grandchildren, Jeffry “Jed” Davis of Los Angeles, CA and Carey (David) Creps of Massachusetts; and three great grandchildren, Madilyn, Caitlyn and Nicholas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, sister and two brothers.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Tommy Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
