Evelyn Ruth Biggs, 92, of Carbondale passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2011 in Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Ruth was born on October 21, 1919 in Carbondale to Amer Dallas and Sarah Ellen (Sweeze) Golliher. She married John Franklin Biggs on July 5, 1941 at New Albany, Indiana. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Lynn Biggs of Carbondale; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Leonard Basler of Carbondale; four grandchildren; Michelle Stevens of Murphysboro, Shannon Anderson of New Port Richey, FL, Rusty Biggs of Carbondale and Brooke Rossiter of Omaha, NE, five great-grand children; Andrew Kipp of Murphysboro, Zoey and Casey Anderson of New port Richey, FL, Brittney Kumke of Rockwood, Mollie Biggs of Carbondale and one great great granddaughter, Aubree Ann Kumke of Rockwood. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Louise Golliher of Carbondale and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband John Franklin Biggs on March 2, 1960, one son Jimmie Lee Biggs, one daughter Ellen Rowden, one grandson, Richard Bodkin, four brothers, and one sister. Evelyn attended Murdale Baptist Church of Carbondale. She also was a volunteer at the hospital as a pink lady. She retired in 1982 from SIUC as a custodian at the student center after working fourteen years there. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Meredith Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Hicks officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the funeral home.
