Gene Davis

MAKANDA - Claude Eugene ‘Gene’ Davis, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018 from pneumonia.



Gene was born May 21, 1929 near Pomona, IL to James Davis and Mamie (Forby) Davis and was the youngest of 5 children.



Gene was a veteran, serving as Mess Sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1959. He attended Dutch Ridge Church for several years. After graduating SIU College, he worked as a mechanic for Wallace Chevrolet for seven years and Vic Koenig Chevrolet for six years. In 1972, he started an auto repair shop known as Davis Auto Center in Makanda, IL, that has served the community for over 46 years.



He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Davis of Makanda, IL: son Kerry and wife Junita Davis of Makanda.IL; son Glenn Davis and wife Claire Davis, of Crystal Lake, IL: Four Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren: Joshua & Jessi Davis, Judah, Jonah, Jillian of West Frankfort, IL; Jonathan & Sarah Davis, Caden, Natalie, Addison, Liam of Marion, IL; Jacob and Miquelie Davis, Sophia, Olivia of Herrin, IL; MiCaela (Davis) & Max Grzelak of New Zealand.



Funeral services will be held 11am on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Pastor Gary Darnell officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Lipe Cemetery, Makanda. Visitation will be from 9 until 11am on Saturday at the funeral home.
