Gene E. Jordan

Carbondale – Gene E. Jordan, 65, of Pittsburg passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.



Gene was born on January 3, 1951 to Clarence and Erma (Beers) Jordan in Herrin. Gene married Cindy Kelley on December 19, 1993 in Makanda and she survives and is of Pittsburg.



He is also survived by his brother Richard (Sharon) Jordan of Pittsburg; aunt Alberta Smiley of Cambria; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Georgia Kelley; sisters-in-law Pam (Robert) Calhoun and Kim McCall; brother-in-law, Brad Kelley; nieces, Lindsey Calhoun and Miranda Jordan; nephews, Derek and Jacob McCall and David Jordan; one great niece; one great nephew; and very special friends Tyrone and Naomi Hartness.



He was preceded in death by his parents.



Gene worked in various Coal Mines in Southern Illinois for over 24 years. The last one he worked for was Brushy Creek Coal Company. He loved woodworking and distributed many homemade pens around Southern Illinois.



Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Reverends Paul Hicks and Tyrone Hartness officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the SIH Foundation and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
