Golda Mae Kelley Russell

CARBONDALE – Golda Mae Kelley Russell of Herrin, 93, passed away at 11:27 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Helia Healthcare of Energy.  Golda was born on May 15, 1924 to William Esco and Lela Kathryn (Rushing) Bean in Campbell Hill.        



   She is survived by her daughter Rosemary Delain Culp of Herrin; daughter-in-law, Joan Russell of Herrin; eight grandchildren, Kathi (Tad Hancock) Russell-Churchill, David (Crystal) Culp, Larry Brian (Darla) Culp, Brent (Jennifer) Culp, Todd (Staci) Culp, Rick (Alecia) Russell, Craig (Karie) Culp, and Adam (Tricia) Culp; 28 great-grandchildren and 36 great-great-grand-children with four on the way; nephew, Merle Hanson; great niece, Lisa Hanson; cousin, Ruth Humpherys; brother-in-law, Van L. (Shelba) Russell, and sister-in-law, Aretha Russell.       



   She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earnst “Bud” Kelley and William “Doc” Russell; son, Ronald Dean Russell; granddaughter, Nancy Joan Russell; great granddaughter Elizabeth Hitzelburger; brothers, Vernon Bean and sister-in-law Rose and William Lee Bean and sister-in-law Dorothy; and sister, Alene Hanson and brother-in-law Buck.     



   Golda worked for Smoler Brothers Garment Factory in Herrin for over 24 years when she retired in 1980.  She enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and was a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin.   Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 with Joe Daniels officiating at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.  Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.  Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
