Helen Rumsey

Carbondale- Helen Rumsey, 77 passed away at 8:07 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. Helen was born April 28, 1936 in Carbondale to Raymond and Dexter (Koonce) Hayton. She married James Lloyd Rumsey in Batavia, NY. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1994. Helen is survived by two sons, Chip (Marge) Rumsey of Crossplains, TN, and Mike (Tina) Rumsey of Carbondale; two daughters, Becky (Jim) Stevens and Jama (Johnnie) McBride all of Carbondale; nine grandchildren, Jimmie (Melissa) Rumsey of Benton, Amanda (David) Pinkham of O'Fallon, Bailey Johnson of Carbondale, Josh (Katie) Rumsey of Murphysboro, Kyle (Macey) Rumsey of Carterville, Karrie (Ryan) Snyder of Haubstadt, IN, Jason (Cassie) McBride of Carbondale, Jessica (George) Rumsey of Nashville, TN and Billy Rumsey of Henderson, KY; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, brother, and two grandsons, Brice Rumsey and Ethan McBride. Helen loved her family. She was the "glue" that kept everyone together. She not only raised her own children, but continued on with her grandchildren. She will be missed by many. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Rev. Jeff Owens officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Foundation.
