CARBONDALE – Jacqueline “Jackie” S. Allen, 82, of Carbondale, was received into the arms of her loving savior Jesus on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.



Jackie was born on December 22, 1938 in Carbondale to Raymond and Margaret (Gibbs) Thetford.



Jackie retired from SIU after 25 years of service. During her last years with SIU she worked at the Recreation Center. She was very respected and giving to the students and staff that she loved so much. Jackie went on to work in the JCPenny Men’s Department until their closing. Jackie loved canning jelly and making cookies for the kids and grandkids. She was also well known for her meteorological ability.



Jackie is survived by her children, Debbie Allen-Murphy and Jeff (Jacinta) Alstat; grandchildren, Ryan M. (Beth) Brooks, John (Erin) Patterson, Kody Boyd, Bridget (Evan) Buffington, Brooke (Nate) Schmidgall, Joshua (Emily) Alstat, and Andrew (fiancée Bailee) Alstat; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joan, Barbara, Mary and Kay; and two brothers, Ronnie and Larry.



She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gene Thetford; and niece, Gina Thetford.



The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and doctors for the amount of compassion and care that was extended to our mother during her extended stay.



A private family service for Jackie was held. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jackie’s name can be made to Cambria Christian Church and Trinity Christian School in Carbondale.
