Jacqueline J Goepfert

CARBONDALE - Jacqueline Jean Goepfert, 84, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, March 04, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Jackie was born March 21, 1928 in Belleville to George Clifford and Edna J (Storner) Thompson. They both preceded her in death. She married Robert "Bob" Goepfert, August 9, 1947 at 17th Street Baptist Church in Belleville. This past August they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Jackie is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Stephen (Cheryl) Goepfert of Alcoa, Tennessee; daughter, Robin (David) Businaro of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, D. Matthew (Tiffany) Businaro, Mark Justin Businaro, Ann Elizabeth Goepfert, Susan Goepfert (Will) Raymond and Katherine Jean Goepfert; and two great-grandchildren, Avah Lynn and Justin Charles Businaro; brother, Darrell Clifford (Lynda) Thompson of Sarasota, Florida. Before "Miss Jackie" was employed by SIUC, where she worked as a secretary for 23 years until her retirement in 1999, she was a pastor's wife, working faithfully beside her husband, Bob, in church pastorates in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. She was also secretary to the director of Missouri Baptist Association, Kansas City, Missouri. She was a faithful, active member of University Baptist Church, Carbondale, serving her Lord in the choir, in Women's Missionary Union, and the Joy Sunday School Class. In 1984 she received Faculty and Staff Excellence Award as staff secretary at the Center for Study of Crime, Delinquency and Corrections. She was also a member of Home Extension, Boskeydell Unit and the Business and Professional Women, Carbondale, and in 1988, received Woman of the Year. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Reverend John Annable officiating. Entombment will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Baptist Children's Home, Carmi, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
