Jeanie Marshall Barrett

CARBONDALE – Jeanie Marshall Barrett, 94, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.



Jeanie was born on Wednesday, January 9, 1924 in West Frankfort, in Franklin County to James and Jean (Barty) Marshall. She married William Troy Barrett on November 21, 1953.



Jeanie is survived by her two sons, Thomas Barrett of Deer Park, TX and Donald T. Barrett and wife Anne of Carbondale, IL; daughter, Nancy Barr and husband Jerry of Pasadena, TX; sister, Margaret Johnson of West Frankfort, IL; four Grandchildren, Alexander Barrett of DuQuoin, IL, Bonnie Farias of Webster, TX, Rachel Ball and husband Joseph of League City, TX, Jerry Devin Barr of Pasadena, TX; two Great-Grandchildren; Vincent and Oliver Ball of League City, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.



She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and infant brother Douglas Marshall.



Jeanie’s first employment was with the Boyscout Council in West Frankfort, IL. Next she worked for the State of Illinois Unemployment office in Murphysboro. Finally, Jeanie enjoyed working alongside her husband at the law firm of Barrett, Twomey, Broom, Hughes and Hoke for over thirty years.



Jeanie attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville, IN. She loved world travel, shopping, and especially enjoyed weekly “Saturday Night Cookouts” with friends.



Funeral services for Jeanie will be 11:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.



The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to Father Edward J. Flanagan’s Boy’s Town. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
