John T. Cox Sr.

April 28, 1945 — January 27, 2014

Carbondale - John T. Cox Sr., 68, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at City Care of Cobden Nursing Home. John was born April 28, 1945, in Paris, to Thomas Jackson and Wilma June (North) Cox. He married Robin Ann Jargon on July 2, 1987 in Decatur. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include a son, Thomas Anthony Cox of Chester; two brothers, James Edward Cox of Los Angeles, CA, and David Harley Cox of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Carol Louise Anderson of Normal and Barbara Ann Jeffrey of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two children, John Thomas Cox Jr and Kimberly Carol Sue Cox. John served his country as a Corp E4 in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam where he was wounded. He proudly supported the Wounded Warriors Project. He loved to read books and watch movies. He had worked as a Manager for a gas station until his retirement in 1985. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Rev. D. Brian Trambley officiating. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Carbondale American Legion Post 127, will be at Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale. A visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to New Beginnings Community Church of the Nazarene, Carbondale, and will be accepted at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois and the City Care of Cobden Nursing Home for the care that they gave to John.
