DuQuoin - Josephine Mae Cooper, 86, passed away peacefully at 3:00 p.m. at her home on Monday, July 13, 2015. Jose was born August 8, 1928 in Herrin, to Burton and Hallie (Murrey) Bond. She married Jack B. Cooper on May 11, 1959 in Carbondale. Together they celebrated 20 years of marriage. Jose is survived by her son, Stephen W. Cooper of DuQuoin; daughters, Susan "Sue" E. (Kenneth) Baker of Dallas, TX; son-in-law, Don Lingle of DuQuoin; four grandchildren, Dawn M. (Kevin) Oestricher of Elkville, Andrew S. Lingle of DuQuoin, Sarah K. Baker of Dallas, TX and Jeffery Baker of Dallas, TX; six great grandchildren, Tristan, Juliette and Gavin Lingle, Danielle and Erin Shupe and Brianna Oestricher; one great great-grandson, Dawson Eric Tilley; good friend, Pam Owens of Elkville; nephews, Joey (Christine) Bond of Moore, SC, Mark Bond of Middleton, WI; and niece, Amy Bond of Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack, on April 27, 1980, daughter, Sharon Lingle, on November 21, 2014, brother, Burton "Buddy" J. Bond, and sister-in-law, Martha Bond. Jose was employed as a Ward Clerk for Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for 15 years until her retirement. She was of Methodist faith. She will be missed by her family, and all the many lives she touched throughout her life. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro, with Pastor Kent Eaton officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Southern Illinois Chapter of Alzheimer's, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
