Lois "Boots" M. Peterson

Lois "Boots" M. Peterson, 90, passed away 11:50 p.m., Friday, November 15. 2013 at her residence in Carbondale IL. Lois was born to William and Anna M. (Hollows) Beers in Washington Park, IL. On December 15, 1922. She married Russell E. Peterson on July 26, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death. She was survived by her two sons, Russell N. Peterson of Rockaway Beach Mo; and Robert Peterson and wife Sharon Peterson of Buffalo, MO; Daughter-in-law Peggy Peterson of Livingston, IL; grandchildren, Tammy and Joe Halliday of Carbondale; Russell H. and Janet Peterson of Rockaway Beach, MO; Susie Bangert and Carl Hansel of Livingston; Fred Peterson Jr. and wife Kristy of Livingston; Lori and Tim Raymer of Sidney; and James Sparling of Branson, MO; four great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, and two sons; David Peterson; and Fred Peterson. Lois was one of the first women barbers in the St. Louis area and she held that occupation for 21 years. She was the owner of Peterson Barber Shop in Washington Park, and retired in 1982. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL, with Fred Peterson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois are the preferred form of remembrance and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
