CARBONDALE - Lola Mae Smith, 85, went to be with the Lord on, Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 6:32 p.m. at Helia Healthcare Center of Carbondale. Lola was born on January 30, 1927 in Harrisburg, to Edwin Frank and Lola Mae (Kaid) Monroe. She married William Carl Smith on May 28, 1953 in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1992. She is survived by one son, James Phillip Gentry and daughter-in-law, Connie Gentry of DeSoto; one daughter, Carolyn McDaniel of Carbondale; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sarah and Josh Lesniak of Columbus, MS, Ryan McDaniel of Gulfport, MS, April and Joseph Huber of Visalia, CA, Jay and Amy Gentry of Marion, and Vicki and Terry Harger of Herrin; and five great grandchildren. In heaven, Lola joins her parents; husband, William Carl; one sister, Emily; three brothers, Dan, Franklin and her twin brother Loren; and two twin infant brothers, William and Orville. In her earlier years, she worked as a seamstress at Jomac in Murphysboro, a job from which she retired in the fall of 1985. Lola was also a charter member of the Lakeland Baptist Church in Carbondale for more than 50 years. Services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale, with Pastor Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. She will be laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery, where she joins her husband, William Carl. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeland Baptist Church building fund and The Gideon's. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
