CARBONDALE - Audrey Lucille Biggs, 89, of Carbondale, passed away at 1:31 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Lucille was born June 9, 1925, in Cobden, the youngest daughter of Oscar and Stella (Wiseman) Lirely. Over the years, she worked in a movie theater, sold records for Williams Store in Carbondale during the '50's and took several babysitting jobs of which she forged strong bonds with those families. She was a volunteer for 15 years at the Pink Geranium, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a long-time member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Carbondale. She married George L. Peterman, Sr. She later married Clinton E. Biggs on February 21, 1957. They shared 37 years of marriage until his death on March 28, 1994. Lucille is survived by a son, Wesley Gene Peterman of Carterville; a daughter, Cheryl Ann (Larry G.) Holder of Carterville; nine grandchildren, Randi Jo, Jason and Joshua Holder, Jennifer Berry, Greg and Gary Peterman, Sherry Haralambopoulos, Mike Peterman and Jennifer Crespi; four step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a niece, Pat Probasco from CA; and a sister-in-law, Mary Raso of Herrin. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, George L. Peterman in September of 1994, two stepchildren, Nancee Biggs Stahlke and Michael Wayne Biggs, two older sister's Juanita Casper and Frieda Dillon, a beloved older brother Gene Lirely, who was killed in a car wreck on March 20, 1934, at the age of 17, and a stillborn baby, James Clinton Biggs on May 18, 1964. Lucille was a very strong woman both physically and emotionally. She was a tireless caregiver to her parents, parents-in-law, sister, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Rev. Wes Henson officiating. Interment will be held at Rowan Cemetery, Makanda. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
