Martin Glenn Hughes

Martin Glenn Hughes, 92, of Carbondale, passed away at 8:25 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Parkway Manor in Marion. Martin was born in Makanda, IL on May 18, 1919 to John and Clara Hughes. He is survived by two daughters Michele Hughes of Chicago, and Jacquelyn Fischer of Port Saint Lucie, FL. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Martin Hughes Jr., and two brothers, Laverne and Wayne Hughes. Martin served in the United States Coast Guard during the World War II. He worked many years as a precision machinist for Aerojet General and the Naval Ordinance. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Lipe Cemetery in Makanda. Friends and family are asked to meet at the graveside. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Memorials to Lipe Cemetery are the preferred form of remembrance.
