Mary Jean Boyle

Carbondale - Mary Boyle, 78, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. She was born July 8, 1935 in Seward, NE to Clarence and Lillian (Jeary) Thompson. She is survived by sons Michael Boyle of Oklahoma City and Stephen (Jane) Boyle of Carbondale. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter Lacey, and also Viola Thompson and Ted Boyle. Mary held degrees from University of Nebraska and moved to Illinois in 1963 where she taught drama at CCHS until her retirement in 1995. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale where she served as a Deacon, an Elder, and anything else the Lord asked of her. She was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 60 years and The Stage Company, serving as president for 4 years. Mary's life was characterized by her devotion to her family, her kind and generous spirit and the sheer joy she brought to all who crossed her path. She enjoyed following her Cornhuskers, playing bridge with her friends, attending plays, musicals, and concerts, serving the community and being in charge. Visitation will be Saturday, September 21, 2013, 12:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale with Memorial Service following at 3 p.m. with Pastor Janice C. West officiating. Memorial donations may be made to The Stage Company, McLeod Summer Playhouse, Hospice of Southern Illinois and First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale.
