Nolan K. Williamson

June 28, 1954 — December 17, 2013

Carbondale - Nolan K. Williamson, of Carbondale, died December 17, 2013, the victim of asphyxiation due to choking. He was born June 28, 1954 in Butte, Montana, one of five children born to Russell and Rhea Louise (Olin) Williamson. The family moved to Carbondale when Nolan was the age of one. Survivors include his brothers, Dr. Byron Williamson and wife, Barbara, of Carbondale, and Timothy Williamson of San Francisco, California; a sister, Laura Sims of Murphysboro; a sister-in-law, Madeline Williamson of Ava; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his life partner of 38 years, Jerry Brooks, and their miniature schnauzer, Barkley. Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Lowell Williamson of Ava. Nolan was a Renaissance man; an extraordinarily talented individual. He was a pianist, an artist, a designer of both flowers and interiors. In later years he developed into an outstanding jewelry craftsman. Throughout his life he also raised orchids; was a well-known national breeder of African gray parrots, and blue and gold macaws; and became a master wood worker. His love of flowers lasted throughout his life. His greenhouse is flourishing today in the home he shared with Jerry. Nolan joined Jerry's Flower Shoppe in 1976 as a floral designer and later became a partner in the business. He will be missed by those who loved and respected him and the many friends who depended so upon him. A private family service was conducted December 23, 2013 with Reverend John Annable officiating. His cremains will be interred at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.
