October 29, 2029 — June 24, 2015

DeSoto - On June 24th, 2015, the gates of Heaven opened and Paul Amos Chancey, 86, was welcomed home. He was greeted at Heaven's gate by his parents, Harry Chancey and Miriam (Walker) Chancey and a daughter, Miriam Elizabeth Chancey. Mr. Chancey was born October 29th, 1928 in Venice, Illinois. He was also known as "Sonny Boy" (a name his mother called him). And as Uncle Sonny by many of his nieces and nephews. He was married April 4th, 1947, to his wife Gladys, they were married 68 years. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, his brother Jack Chancey of De Soto, and by 9 children; Sharon and Phil Ball of St Charles, Mo. James Chancey, Steve and Jane Chancey, Valerie and Dale Gass, all of Murphysboro, Matt and Barbara Chancey of Mulberry Grove, Rose and Prosper Fager of De Soto Mark and Linda Chancey of Ridgeway, Deborah and Brian Turner of Herrin, and Rebecca Chancey of Amarillo TX. Mr. Chancey also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews that love him dearly. He worked in the timber business for over 55 years and was the owner of Paul Chancey Timber Company. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, his parents, four brothers and five sisters. The family requests memorial gifts to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project, or Disabled American Veterans are the preferred form of remembrance and will be accepted by the funeral home or at the church.
