Robert D. Leigeber

Robert 'Bob' D. Leigeber, 88, of Carbondale passed away at 4:45 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Carbondale Rehab and Nursing Center. Carbondale, Illinois. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m., at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Reverend Janice West officiating. Entombment will be in the Murdale Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Murphysboro. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 402 E. Plaza Drive, Suite 4, Carterville, IL 62918 or First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale, IL and will be accepted at the funeral home. Bob was born March 20, 1924 at Indianapolis, Indiana to Arthur J. and Clara (Kelly) Leigeber. He married Eleanor Crosby on June 13, 1948 at New Buffalo, Michigan. She passed away on May 30, 2010. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister Loretta. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald L. Leigeber of Carbondale and John C. (Jay) and Elizabeth (Gale) Leigeber of Harleysville, PA.; his younger sister, Evelyn Burkhart of Lawrence, KS; three nephews, David, Daniel, and Douglas May. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale, and served his country in the Navy during WW II aboard the USS Indianapolis. Bob received his Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, W. Lafayette, Indiana. He worked in industry but flourished as an entrepreneur as owner of Crosby's Blueberry Farm in Indiana and then as owner of Crab Orchard Manufactured Home Community after moving to Carbondale. Bob loved traveling with his wife Eleanor. They danced in square and round dance groups. Bob also enjoyed wood carving and many investment interests.
