Carbondale - Robert Eugene Watson, 74, of Carbondale, passed away at 4:39 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his home. Bob was born August 15, 1939, in Du Quoin, IL to Eddy and Ethel (Johnson) Jones. He married Patsy Dean Kenner on December 24, 1980 in Elkville, IL. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Patsy Watson of Carbondale. To this marriage there were no children but stepchildren, Tyrone Margrum, of Burnsville, MN, Lynn Craig of DuQuoin, Carmen Margrum of Dallas, TX, and Margaret Margrum, of Carbondale; ten grandchildren of whom Shawn (Anna) Margrum is of Marion; 33 great grandchildren of whom Dominique McCroy of Murphysboro, Deion Walker of Carbondale, Naomi Tolbert of Carbondale, Zipporah Tolbert of Carbondale; one sister Darlene Woods of Chicago, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his two sisters and his parents. Bob was a coal miner for 18 years and had been employed at Freedman United #11until his retirement in March of 1992. Bob was an avid gardener. He loved to watch country and western movies, told unforgettable tales to his grandchildren, appreciated sports such as football and basketball. He was a member of the Trustee Board at the AME Zion Church, Du Quoin. Public visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 with Rev. Theresa Flagg officiating, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. He will then be cremated. Memorials can be made to AME Zion Methodist Church, 101 N. Maple, Du Quoin, IL and will be received at the funeral home.
