Robert Gerald Bowlby

De Soto – Robert “Jerry” Gerald Bowlby, 76, died March 31, 2020 at his home.



Jerry was born June 28, 1943 to Glen and Naomi (Stearns) Bowlby in De Soto.



Jerry and Rosemary's love for each other was faithful and a beautiful example for all who knew them. They were best friends for 58 years. He was an amazing husband, dad and grandpa and will be deeply missed. He said his kids and their families were his only legacy. He was our unsinkable ship and protector. He also liked riding his Harley, collecting antique tractors and traveling.



Jerry is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Crane) Bowlby; sons, Richard (Tina) Bowlby and Wm Matthew (Mitzie) Bowlby; daughters, Jamie Bowlby and Jeri (Michael) McKinnies; sister, Joyce Bailey; fifteen grandchildren - Zach (Collete) Bowlby, Ashtyn (Kendall) Toliver, Nick Strus, Tyler (Ali) Krough, Jordan (Sam) Bowlby, Kasey (Trey) Waldrop, Sam Strus, Logan Bowlby, Jesse Morefield, Alex Bowlby, Will Bowlby, Katie Bowlby, Brock Bowlby, Bryce McKinnies and Tayte McKinnies and six great-grandchildren. He was also a father figure to many he did not have to be but especially to Jackie Bailey, Jim Crane and Julie Barringer.



He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William “Bill” Bowlby and Jack Bowlby.



A family private service will be held at the family farm.



In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.



Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale assisted the family with arrangements.
