Robert Glenn Sanches, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale after years of living with a traumatic brain injury.
Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, graduated from Western Illinois University class of 1973 earning his Bachelor Degree in Industrial Arts. With his degree, he enjoyed teaching high school students welding skills. He then went on to work as a pipefitter for Local 597 Pipefitters until his retirement in 1993. When he was not welding he continued to substitute teach. He also trained continuously to be a black belt in karate and was a certified scuba diver.
Bob was full of life and loved adventuring. Some of the many things he loved were martial arts, scuba diving, water skiing/snow skiing, movies, Disney World, sports cars, live music concerts and playing pool. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be especially remembered for his beautiful smile and thumbs up gestures.
Bob is survived by his children, Leslie Sanches Brock and Joel Sanches; grandsons, Trevor, Jordan and Easton Brock; siblings, Minnie Milton, Mary Hilger, Donald Sanches, Jim Sanches; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Epifanio and Leota (nee Schell) Sanches; siblings, Delores Weaver, Stella Taylor, Anita Milton and Isidro Sanches.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 4:00pm at Clayton's Rail, located in Morris, IL at 721 Liberty St. The family invites relatives and friends to join them in celebration of Bob's life to share special memories.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the caregivers and staff from NeuroRestorative (over 25 years of care), Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and Residential Hospice (Carbondale, IL) for the wonderful care given to Bob over the past years and months of his life.
