Carbondale - Sandra S. Lowell, 77, of Carbondale passed away 1:10 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Sandy was born on December 17, 1937, in Carbondale, to James A. Williams and Jennie E. Williams. She married Charles W. Peterson on March 31, 1957. She later married C. Milton Lowell in October 1982. They preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Wild and Fianc��e Donald Buckley, and Jodi Paul, all of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Virginia and Syd Newton, Chase Paul and Casey Paul; and one great grandchild, Hannah Newton. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son, Charles "Chip" Peterson, Son-in-law Fred Wild, and Grandson, Andy Wild. Sandy was a retired teacher, and a classified specialist at the Southern Illinoisan Newspaper in Carbondale. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Carbondale, and according to her family, a member of the "Awesome Old Ladies Club." A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at First Christian Church of Carbondale with Rev. Katherine Graves officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the church. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance, and may be made towards Hannah Newton's College Education % her mother, Virginia C. Newton, and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
