CARBONDALE- Thomas L. Schuba, 76, of Carbondale passed away 9:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the St. Francis Xavier Church, Carbondale. Friends may call at the Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. where a Vigil Prayer Service will be starting at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Murphysboro. Memorials to the St. Francis Xavier Church or to the Carbondale Public Library are the preferred form of remembrance and will be accepted by the funeral home. Thomas was born on July 1, 1935 to Leo and Bertha (Bydalek) Schuba in Chicago. He married Judith C. White on August 27, 1977 in Lombard. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Beth Townley of Brandon, Florida, Anne and Michael Kartje of Murphysboro, and Pamela Pommier of Downers Grove; five grandchildren, Michael E., Alexander, and Oliver Kartje, Laura Townley, and Mitchell Schuba. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Schuba. He became a Certified Eagle Scout (#45 in Troop 607) by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America on May 7, 1951. He graduated from St Rita's High School in Chicago, and then attended St Mary's University of Minnesota where he graduated with a bachelor's degree, and then attended The University of Detroit where he obtained his Master's in Business Administration. He served his country in the US Army and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Carbondale. He retired in 1995 from Cresmer, Woodward, O'Mara and Ormsby as Vice President of sales and advertising.
