Thomas Wayne Lipe

MURPHYSBORO - Thomas Wayne Lipe, 55, of Murphysboro, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at St Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro. He was born on August 6, 1956 to Thomas Allen and Shirley Juanita (Lindsey) Lipe, in Carbondale. Tom married Kaye Lynn Smith on March 4, 1979 in Alto Pass. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters; Stephanie and Sara Lipe of Murphysboro; father, Thomas A Lipe of Harrisburg; two brothers, Dale Lipe of Anna and Roger Lipe of Murphysboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly (Bob) Smith of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother. Tom was of Baptist faith and had been in the Illinois National Guard in the Transportation Unit in Carbondale. He was Master of Hounds, Bench Show Judge for Coon Dogs. He was also the former President of the service employees International Union Local 316 and a 20 year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie Lodge #2569 in Carbondale. He liked being outdoors and especially enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. He worked as a Custodial Sub Foreman in the University Housing for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for 21 years until he retired on December 31, 2011. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Meredith Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Rask and Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro with a Military graveside service. Friends may call at the Meredith Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Memorials may be made to Illinois Specialized Care for Children or American Heart Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
