DESOTO – Thomas Wayne Smith, 77, of De Soto, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.
Tommy was born on October 9, 1942 to Marriett and Irene (McKinnies) Smith of DeSoto. He married Brenda Sue Talley on October 12, 1963 in DeSoto. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage prior to his death. She survives along with his daughter Tommie (Anthony) Graham, Jodi (Ossie) Fink, and Jonathan (Aerosheika) Smith. He was crazy about his three grandchildren Katherine Jo Smith, John Thomas Grenfell, and Lillian Claire Graham. He was a great big brother to his sister Spring (George) Miles. All who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Deon Smith.
Tommy was a member of the De Soto First Baptist Church. He owned his own construction business for 35 years until his retirement in 1996, however, nothing satisfied him more than to be around his grandchildren. He loved his family with every fiber of his being, and those of us who loved him never went without. If it could be built, McGuyvered, or even rigged, he was your man. He could catch the hell out of fish and did it often, sharing his bounty with appreciative friends. Friday night fish frys will always be fondly remembered. He was a champion for those who needed his help and felt it important to follow the Golden Rule.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at De Soto Village Cemetery with Pastor Josh Wehrmeier officiating and full Military Rites being accorded.
Memorials may be made to De Soto First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice
Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale assisted the family with arrangements.
