Virginia Lea Ferrell

Makanda – Virginia Lea Ferrell, 88, died at 4:30 p.m. on January 27, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by her family.



Virginia was born on August 20, 1928 to Earl and Jennie Elkins in Cambria. She married Carl ‘Cotton’ Ferrell on November 23, 1946. They spent 29 wonderful years together.



Survivors that will miss her deeply include, daughter, Cheryl (Charlie) Rich of Carbondale; son, David ‘Cotton’ (Billie) Ferrell of Makanda; grandchildren, Jason & Sherri Rich of Carbondale, Mike & Jeannie Stevens of Murphysboro, and David & Jessica Ferrell of Carbondale; great grandchildren, Charlie, Morgan, Noah, Ethan, Andrew, Matthew, Seth, and soon to be born Abigail Rose; step-grandchildren, Beth, Donna, Amy and Robin; Nine step great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl ‘Cotton’ Ferrell; son, Earl Wayne; parents, Earl and Jennie Elkins; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mary Jane Thompson; and sister, Rosilyn Wisely (her buddy).



Virginia was blessed with many friends and a good Christian family. She was grateful for all of them. Virginia wanted us to mention her love for some very special friends who held a special place in her heart. They are, Vern (life-long friend), Joy, Hazel, Norma, Effie, Darlene, and Barb P. She also wanted to thank her nieces and nephews for always being there for her.



Services for Virginia will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at her gravesite in Oakland Cemetery with Pastor Cox officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to Boskydell Baptist Church. Memorials will be accepted by the funeral home.
