William "Bill" Hertter

Carbondale – William "Bill" Hertter, 72, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at his home.



Bill was born on November 7, 1944 in Carbondale to Louis Edward Hertter Jr. and Mary A. (Toler) Hertter. On August 29, 1965 Bill married Sharron Kaye (Freeman) Hertter. She survives and is of Carbondale.



He is survived by his wife Sharron; two sons, Kenneth (Jennifer) Hertter of Oak Forest, and John (Jamie) Hertter of Carbondale; two brothers, Louis (Rosie) Hertter III of Carbondale, and Ron (Donna) Hertter of Carbondale; one sister, Susan Presley of Herrin; five grandchildren, Caleb (Megan) Hertter of Campbell Hill, Katie Hertter of Oak Forest, Kyle Hertter of Oak Forest, KC Jo Hertter of Carbondale, and Jackson Hertter of Carbondale; one great-grandson, Maddix Ehlers; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jim Judd and Roger Spaugh.



Bill is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Nance.



Bill worked at the SIU Power Plant for 35 years. He was also a volunteer Chaplin for the Carbondale Township Fire Department. Bill was a member of Gideon International.



Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Wes Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military rites. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Meredith Funeral Home.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to The Ridge Church building fund, or to Gideon International.
