Energy, IL. - Alan H. Jacobson, 67, of Energy, IL, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023. Alan was born on May 19, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert and Juanita (Genga) Jacobson. Alan obtained with honors an Associate in Liberal Arts from The Loop College in Chicago on June 6, 1975. He later received with honors his Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois on August 15, 1977. Alan was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was awarded the General J.F. Curry Achievement Award while being a member of the CAP. Alan was employed by the US Veteran's Administration as a police officer at the Hines Medical Center in Chicago, IL for 7 years.
Health issues forced Alan into a disability retirement. He later came to DeSoto, IL to live near his brother, Neal, in 1998. Alan enjoyed building scale models and studying naval ship history. He lived independently for 15 years until health issues, once again, forced him into assisted living.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Alan is survived by a brother, Neal
(Carol) Jacobson; nephew, Eric (Leigh Williams), and their two children; nephew, Nathan (Sarah) Jacobson and their three children, of Blue Springs, Missouri; and two great friends, Mark Formoso, and Don Batko of Chicago, Illinois.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Alan may be given to the Veteran's Health Administration Volunteer Services in Marion, IL. The family would like to express their thanks to Helia Healthcare and staff of Energy, IL and to Residential Hospice of Southern Illinois. Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale was entrusted with the services.
