PINCKNEYVILLE – Aveniego “Vinie” M. Elefane, age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 3:38 p.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Aveniego was born on March 4, 1944, to Constancio M and Asuncion Merador Elefane in the Philippines. On November 17, 1969, he married Angela “Heling” Lapurga (Dadoy) Elefane in the Philippines.

Before immigrating to the United States in year 2001, Vinie was a farmer and a carpenter in the Philippines. He worked at Pinckneyville Community Hospital in the Housekeeping Department from 2002 – 2013.

Aveniego is survived by his wife Angela, their seven children Nicson (wife Lurlyn) Elefane, Noralyn (husband Chris) Kelly, Napoleon (wife Nida) Elefane, Nollan (wife Cecile) Elefane, Norman (wife Sherlyn) Elefane, Nelson, and Nicolson (wife Joy) Elefane, their 23 grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lourdes Edora.

Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. lead by the family for a time of remembrance.
