Carla Jean Wilton

CARBONDALE - Carla Jean Wilton, age 79, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center.

Carla was born on December 24, 1946, in Geneva, New York to Carl and Margaret (Brouillette) Wilton.

She dedicated her life to education, serving as a beloved junior high teacher for 35 years at Memorial Junior High School in Lansing, Illinois. She inspired countless students with her passion for learning and her unwavering commitment to their growth. Carla enjoyed working on her family’s genealogy along with a fascination with computers. She is survived by her nephew, Nathan Duffield; and dear cousins, Mark Eovaldi, Barbara Huppert and James Temple. Carla's legacy will live on in the hearts of all those she taught and all those who had the opportunity to call her a friend or a mentor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcia Duffield; and brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Merrie Lou Wilton.

Per Carla’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held.

Memorials may be made in Carla’s name to St. Francis CARE Animal Shelter in Murphysboro or an educational charity of your choice, ensuring that her passion for learning continues to inspire future generations.
