Celeste Marie Williams

Celeste M. Williams, died peacefully in Murphysboro, IL, on August 25, 2026. She was born in Durham, North Carolina, on July 5, 1944. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Wayne E Williams, and her faithful dog, Cleo.

She is survived by David (Linda Strauss), Teresa (Jim Roysdon), Bonnie (Daniel Lehenbauer), Joe (Liz Mueth), and David Smith. Grandchildren are Kai, Maki, Gabe, and Milo.

Celeste was a deeply compassionate person who loved her family, friends, and fellow humans. She strove to stamp out injustice and adored the simple things that make life special. Towards the end of her fight with leukemia, her goal was to be around to usher in rapid regime changes toward a more just world. She was a volunteer at the Murphysboro Senior Center and was assisting with re-development of the kitchen to ensure everyone could have a hot meal.

Her family and friends will miss the joy and laughter that she brought into their lives.

There will not be any services as per her request. If you would like to contribute in her honor, please contact the Murphysboro Senior Center to contribute to the development of the kitchen.
