Charlie McBride

CARBONDALE - Charles Lee McBride, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was born on November 20, 1931 in Carbondale to Johnnie and Thelma (Young) McBride. Charlie married Doris McKemie on May 28, 1955 in Carbondale.

Charlie served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he worked on tanks and became an excellent mechanic. After returning home, he founded and operated McBride Mack Sales and Service in 1962, a business that became a staple in the Carbondale community.

An avid horse enthusiast, Charles found great joy in trail riding, which allowed him to share unforgettable experiences with family and friends. He also cherished time spent in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Above all, Charlie devoted his life to his family. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris; son, Johnnie R. and wife, Jama McBride, David and wife Debra McBride and daughter, Kelly and husband Greg Sanders; grandchildren, Karrie Snyder, Jason McBride, Laura Hicks, Molly Queriapa, Jacob Sanders, Ezra Sanders and Riley Sanders; ten great-grandchildren; and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ethan McBride; and sister, Sue Travelstead.

Funeral Services for Charlie will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Grand Avenue Christian Church in Carbondale with Pastor Patrick Langan officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00am until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. His burial at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale will be private.

Memorials may be made in Charlie's name to Grand Avenue Christian Church and will be accepted at the church.
