CARBONDALE – Dr. Vernold Karl Feiste, 82, of Carbondale, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, LLC.
Dr. Feiste was born on June 27, 1935 in Farrar, MO son of Karl and Lydia (Petzoldt) Feiste. He was united in marriage with Nelda Arlene (Renne) Feiste on August 14, 1965 at Forest Green, MO. Survivors include wife, Nelda Feiste of Carbondale; two sons, Kurt (Jennifer) Feiste of Austin, TX and Eric (Amy) Feiste of Saint Louis, MO; daughter Kara Feiste of Carbondale; sister-in-law Emma Feiste of Jackson, MO; sister Elda Palisch of Jackson, MO; five grandchildren, Kyle Feiste, Daniel Feiste, and William Feiste of Saint Louis, MO, Olivia and Audrey Feiste of Austin, TX; six nieces and nephews.
Dr. Feiste was preceded in death by his parents; brother Delmar Feiste and brother-in-law Herb Palisch.
Dr. Feiste earned his Doctorate from University of Missouri in engineering and shared a passion for the field and made many original contributions to it. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer who inspired the burgeoning minds of his engineering students at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. This incredible enthusiasm earned him many outstanding teacher of the year awards. He worked for the Engineering Department for 37 years until his retirement in 2002 and will be missed.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday October 21, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale with Pastor Robert Gray officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the Church. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Carbondale.
