CARBONDALE - Eric W. McMillan, 69, formerly of Danville, passed away on Friday morning, January 29, 2016 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Eric was born April 7, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA to William James and Florence (Meister) McMillan. He married Bonnie Stowell on June 14, 1969 in Hatboro, PA. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include his mother, Florence M. McMillan of Murphysboro; two daughters, Kimberly M. (Eugene) Talley of Carbondale, and Megan J. (Raymond) Clodi of Mt. Vernon; brother, Bruce McMillan; and four grandchildren, Kaylan and Savannah Talley, Alistair and Anderson Clodi. Eric is proceeded in death by his father, William McMillian. Eric served his country in the U.S. Army. He attended the University of Illinois, where he obtained Master Degrees in Food Science and Environmental Engineering. After school Eric worked as a Process Engineer in Danville, IL until his retirement in 2012. Upon recently moving to Carbondale he became very active in the local community. For the past two years he was part of the Human Relations Committee for the City of Carbondale and served as President of the Liberty Village Homeowners Association. Eric taught weekly bible study for clients of NeuroRestorative in Carbondale and volunteered his time with the Special Olympics not only locally but across all of Illinois. Above all else Eric enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren, watching them play sports and attending school activities. Funeral services will be on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro with Reverends Josemon Hoem and Kent Tibben officiating. There will be a military service at the church immediately following the funeral service. Visitation will be Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale and Monday, February 1, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Murphysboro or the Danville Lutheran School in Danville, IL and will be accepted at the funeral home.
