Carbondale - Genevieve Simons, 95, of Carbondale, passed away at 12:04 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Manor Court of Carbondale. Genevieve was born January 17, 1920 in Carbondale to Leander and Mary Elizabeth (Grammer) Hagler. She married Harold Leonard Simons on May 15, 1940 in Jackson, MO. Together they shared 68 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2008. Genevieve is survived by her three sons, Harold Lee Simons and his wife, Beverly, of Taylorville, Richard Earl Simons and his wife, Phyllis, of Carbondale and John Robert Simons of Carbondale; two granddaughters, Robin (Eric) Gibbs of Macedonia, and Holly (Adam) Brown of St. Louis; two grandsons, Clifford (Chona) Bell of VA, and Alvin (Jill) Bell of WI; eight great grandchildren, Katherine and Kristin Todd, Crystal McGrady, Lee Bell, Alaina, Audrey and Ashlyn Gibbs, and Corrin Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Golda Anderson, brother, Willis Hagler and granddaughter, Sheila Lynn Todd. Genevieve was a homemaker and of Baptist faith. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale with Chaplain Mike Brown and Reverend David Dyer officiating. Interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery of Carbondale. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the UBC Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home.
