JOHNSTON CITY – Harold D. Clarkson, 83, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.

Harold was born on August 3, 1942 to Luther and Opal (Copass) Clarkson in Mount Hermon, KY. He married Inge Dumberger on August 14, 1963 in Augsburg, Germany.

Harold is survived by his wife, daughters Marion (Jason) Moyers of Marion, and Sheila Dimick of Kingwood, Texas, Kathy (Butch) Ramsey of Palestine; son James (Nikki) Clarkson of Mohamet, grandchildren Doniella Snyder, Christopher Warf, Kara Larson, Shon Clarkson, Chelsey Clarkson, Ariel Clarkson, Taylor Dimick, and Sydney Dimick; seven great-grandchildren, brother Roy (Sandy) Clarkson of Tuscola, sister Debbie (Steve) Cook of Tuscola, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gerald Clarkson and Roger Sams; brother-in-law Dana Soard, son-in-law Tony Dimick, and niece Tabitha Sams.

Harold served his country as a Vietnam Veteran. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. He never knew a stranger, and was full of stories and jokes. Harold left fond memories of traveling and family game nights. He was a well of knowledge. He was loved and cherished by many who knew him.
