Helen “Gigi” Louise Moon, 75, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her loving family.



Helen was born on May 12, 1944 to Richard and Pruella (Dietz) Crane in Carbondale. She married Larry Moon on November 2, 1962 in De Soto.



Helen is survived by her loving husband, Larry Moon of Murphysboro; daughters, Laurie (Gary) Strobl and Kelly (Joe) Martin both of Willisville; brother, Jim Crane of De Soto; sisters Liz (Roger) Stuva and Sandy (Bob) Richards both of Murphysboro; grandchildren, Colton Strobl and Kolbie Martin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.



She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Richard Crane.



Helen was a dedicated member of Carbondale Community High School, working more than thirty years as the athletic secretary. She was strongly supportive of the young athletes at CCHS, evident by the Helen Moon Scholarship Fund. Helen was "Mama Moon" to many many student athletes at CCHS and Terrier blood ran through her veins... “Once a Terrier, always a Terrier.”



A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at a later date.



In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Helen Moon Scholarship Fund at Carbondale Community High School’s athletic department and will be accepted at the school or funeral home.
