De Soto – Isaac “Ike” Hicks, 98, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Marion Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
Ike was born February 7, 1924 in De Soto to Arthur William and Ollie (Doran) Hicks.
He married Ruth Helen Legan on January 19, 1950 in Jonesboro. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this past January.
Ike is survived by his wife, Ruth of De Soto; one son and daughter-in-law, Howard Lee “Butch” (Linda) Hicks of De Soto; two granddaughters, Shelia (Darren) Snyder of Carbondale and Amy (Wayne “WA”) Taylor of De Soto; and four great grandchildren, Hayden Snyder, J.J. Snyder, Montana and Gracie Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and one sister.
Ike proudly served in the Navy from April 1944 to May 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post 664 of Hurst, Jackson County Farm Bureau, served on both township board and the De Soto School Board for twelve years. He was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Secretary for over 40 years and was a Deacon for 20 years. Ike also sang in the Church Choir and was in a Gospel Quartet.
He worked very hard all his life as a farmer and was proud to provide a lot of food for our country during those years. He was dedicated to his work and family. He is known to his grand and great grandchildren as “Pop.” He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Interment with military graveside rites will be at De Soto Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
