Murphysboro - Jack Cecil Baird, 73, of Murphysboro, Carbondale, and Gilbertsville, KY passed away at 4:56 p.m. October 12, 2012 in St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on February 21, 1939 at East St. Louis, Illinois to Cecelia (Kinder) and Russell Baird. His tour for serving his country in the US Air Force was cut short due to the death of his father, where he had to come home to manage the family Farm Fresh Milk Store in Murphysboro. Jack was of the Catholic Faith. He was a self-employed Construction Contractor and owned various properties in Illinois and Kentucky, including Laundry World and Magnolia Manor Resort. He also managed the Hickory Log Restaurant and the Burger Mart fast food chain throughout Southern Illinois early in his life. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin of Columbus, Ohio and Curtis (Gina) of Carbondale; a daughter, Jacqueline Baird of Carbondale; three grandsons, Aeian, Corbin, and Riley Baird; one brother Michael Baird of Murphysboro; and a life mate, Tina Moore and family of Gilbertsville. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. There will be no other services. Memorials to the Illinois Masonic Children's Home, 101 Masonic Drive, Murphysboro, IL 62966 are the preferred form of remembrance and will be accepted by the funeral home.
